Falcons visit and my weekend plans
Apr 17, 2007
April 17th: My Atlanta Falcons visit was pretty much business focused. I was able to speak with coaches and check out the facilities and watch a mini-camp practice. The practice was cool because I was able to see the level of play and speed of the game and see what I'm going to be up against. It was definitely an honor to be there.
This weekend is the Spring Game and it is always a big weekend at Penn State. I'm excited to see some friends and relax and socialize. I haven't even been to a spring practice so it will be cool to go and check it out. That weekend I will be doing a couple of autograph sessions and will be having lunch with some kids from First Church from Williamsport, Pa. They are great group of kids. Tim Pro Day

April 2nd: I felt pretty good about my Pro Day. I improved a couple of numbers and most importantly I felt the thing I did best was the position drills. I felt like I showed good movement and quickness. After Pro Day I took a few days off to rest mentally and physically. Now I've just been focusing on my workouts towards football meaning more football specific and linebacker drills. I'll be heading to Atlanta next week for a workout so I'm looking forward to that.
During the Draft I think I'll be at home with my family and I may even go golfing. Preparing for Pro Day

March 18th: I've just been really focusing on Pro Day by working on the linebacker drills. I'm trying to improve on some measurable things like my broad jump and still running a good 40. I'm staying rested but I'm ready. I've had a lot of interviews with the media - good to get some publicity. After Pro Day I'm planning on taking a few days off and relaxing a little. Then I plan on doing more football related stuff and then I'll start thinking about mini camps.
Training, Hula Bowl, and the Combine
Mar 11, 2007
January 6th: I arrived at Coach Tom Shaw's; at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando to get settled in to the workout facility. My roommate was Kevin Boss, TE Western Oregon. Two days later I headed to Hawaii for the Hula Bowl - it was a total travel time of 22 hours. While I was at the Hula Bowl I spent most of my time talking with NFL teams and scouts. Any free time I had I spent at the beach and enjoyed the atmosphere. I did manage a trip to Pearl Harbor with my agent, Scott Smith of X-A-M Sports ; The bowl game itself went well.It was a good chance for people to see me playing middle linebacker again. I was able to make a handful of plays.
After the game I headed back to Orlando for the long haul of Combine training. Coach Shaw's program is a great program and I was excited to just do nothing else but just train - great for me. I really enjoyed the fact that there were other top athletes to compete with and work with. I also liked having both current and former NFL players working with us. One of the best aspects about Coach Shaw's is that everything is there. In other words, if you want to work harder, do more reps, and get an extra workout in you can because he has all the trainers and equipment available. The most valuable lesson I learned while training for the Combine was just to compete at every chance you get whether it is just a drill or running a sprint -- just always compete. The Combine was a crazy experience. It was what I heard it was going to be but you just don't understand it until you do it. It is definitely a meat market because every second you are being looked at, touched, and analyzed. And I do agree that it is the biggest job interview I've ever had. It was very stressful and all you wanted to do was get to the 40 but had to do all the mental stuff first. I'm grateful that I was able to participate in the Combine and it went really well for me. After the Combine I headed back to Michigan for awhile to relax with my family and recuperate and then I headed back to Penn State. Here, I am training for Pro Day and working out with Jeremy Scott, the Penn State speed coach, and other teammates. I'm just continuing to work on what I've been doing and keeping my body ready for March 22nd. Will check in next week. Tim Shaw |
