South Team Practice Report - Thursday

Jan 25, 2007, 9:00 PM

by Greg Benjamin and Larry Larmeu

href="/profile/Kevin-Kolb/1127">Kevin Kolb - Displayed good mobility, getting out of the pocket and running with the football. He scored a touchdown on one of his scrambles.

Jordan Palmer - Made some nice throws in redzone drills.

Chris Leak - Made some nice throws moving the team down the field in the two minute offense.

Lorenzo Booker - Made some nice runs. Displayed good speed and quickness. Looks like a 3rd down or change of pace back at the next level.

Kenneth Darby - Looked good running the ball and made some nice catches as well.

Kenny Irons - Continues to look like the best pure runner on the South squad. Looked better catching the ball out of the backfield than he did yesterday.

Dallas Baker - Made some nice catches today. Used his size and leaping ability to go up and get balls over shorter defensive backs.

Dwayne Bowe - Continued to look like the best receiver on the South squad. Beat newcomer Michael Coe with a double-move and made a great leaping catch in the endzone, getting the ball at its highest point.

Martrez Milner - Though he dropped a couple balls, he did make several nice catches. He looked better as a receiver than he had in previous days.

Joe Newton - Didn't look as good catching the ball as he did in previous days. He dropped several catchable passes today.

Joe Staley - Did a good job in pass protection drills.

Quentin Moses - worked on drops along with Chase Pittman to see if they are athletic enough to make the move to outside linebacker.

Earl Everett - Looked as though he may have injured his ankle. He did get back on the field later on in practice but he seemed to be taking it easy on his right ankle.

Fred Bennett - Looks as though he injured his hamstring yesterday. Showed toughness by practicing through the injury even though they brought in another player that could replace him (Michael Coe).

Michael Coe - A new face on the South roster. We believe he was brought in to replace Fred Bennett who was acting as though his right hamstring was bothering him. Coe struggled a bit in his first practice. Dwayne Bowe beat him for a touchdown with a double-move.

Jonathan Wade - Was burned deep by Dallas Baker, but displayed good recovery speed, catching up with Baker in the endzone to breakup a perfectly thrown pass. He also had an interception in the scrimmage.

David Irons - After being picked on alot yesterday, David bounced back with a good day in coverage today. We didn't see him get beat at all.

Nick Folk - Looked more like an NFL kicker today. He displayed better range than he did previously. His kicks from 50+ yards were coming up short yesterday. Today he was making kicks from as far away as 52 yards. He also did a good job of getting the ball in the endzone on kickoffs.

Press Conference Notes:

Mike Nolan
-Michael Coe was added to the roster due to injuries they have at cornerback (Fred Bennett, A.J. Davis)
-Dwayne Bowe reminds him of Marques Colston
