LSU – March 14, 2007 Scouts from all 32 teams were in Baton Rouge to watch 18 players workout at LSU’s pro day on Wednesday. Nearly 100 NFL personnel and approximately 75 members of the media were on hand. The New Orleans Saints had 30 representatives including head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis. Other head coaches and general managers in attendance include: Mike Tomlin, Brad Childress, Lane Kiffin, Phil Savage, Ted Thompson, A.J. Smith, and Bruce Allen. JaMarcus Russell – Russell came to the combine a bit overweight at 265 pounds last month. He has since slimmed down, weighing in at 256 pounds on Wednesday. JaMarcus ran a 4.83 40 but only participated in positional drills after that. Many scouts were disappointed that Russell opted not to participate in the agility drills and the bench press. He threw passes to running back Justin Vincent and receivers Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis. Russell had a great workout displaying great arm strength and good accuracy. He threw every pass route in the book including some throws on the run. 45 of 50 pass attempts were considered to be good throws. Several 65 yard passes across his body opened some eyes. The main criticism was his footwork as he tended to throw the ball off-balance at times. Overall JaMarcus had a great workout and most likely solidified his position as the top pick in the 2007 NFL draft. LaRon Landry – Landry did not run a 40 on Wednesday, opting to stick with his outstanding combine time of 4.35. He ran a 4.36 short shuttle which makes you question his quickness. Landry also had a 7.11 three-cone, a 38 inch vertical, and a 10 foot, 6 inch broad jump. Dwayne Bowe – Bowe, who was the slowest of the projected first round receivers at the combine (4.53), improved at his pro day running times of 4.49 and 4.40. He had a 37 ½ inch vertical and a 10 foot, 5 inch broad jump. Bowe caught passes from quarterback JaMarcus Russell in positional drills. Craig Davis – Davis, who ran well at the combine (4.46), ran even better at his pro day with times of 4.44 and 4.41. He had a 36 ½ inch vertical and a 10 foot, 1 inch broad jump.
