Calvin Johnson to enter NFL draft
Jan 8, 2007, 3:46 PM

ATLANTA - Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson announced Monday that he will enter the NFL draft, giving up his final college season for the chance to be one of the top players selected.

The decision was hardly a surprise. Johnson had long been expected to pass up his senior season with the Yellow Jackets, and he did little to change that perception during a brilliant junior year.

Johnson was chosen to The Associated Press All-America team and won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver.

Raiders clinch top spot in draft
Jan 1, 2007, 12:26 PM

The Raiders are on the clock.

Even before yesterday's 23-3 loss to the Jets, Oakland was assured of at least tying for the worst season in franchise history. Falling to 2-14 and clinching that dubious distinction was just a case of putting curdled icing on a rancid cake.

At least the Raiders have the NFL draft to look forward to. By virtue of Detroit's 39-31 win over Dallas, Oakland will have the top pick and can start dreaming about Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn or whoever strikes the fancy of 77-year-old owner Al Davis, who had a sour look as he left Giants Stadium after the game.

Dec 22, 2006, 5:50 AM

The junior rushed for a team-high 581 yards and seven touchdowns on 165 carries this season, an average of 3.5 yards per attempt. He started the first two games, was replaced in the lineup by Chris Jennings for six games, and then did the bulk of his rushing in the final four games.

Henry cited a lack of playing time early in the season as a key reason for making his decision to leave. He also expressed concern over the uncertainty of his role in new offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes' spread offense.
