PANTHERS RECEIVER KEYSHAWN JOHNSON Johnson was quarterback Jake Delhomme's favorite target when Steve Smith was out early in the season, but lately Delhomme has seemed to focus more on Smith. Johnson averaged 74.6 receiving yards through the first five games, 39.3 through the past six. A few more tosses to the sure-handed Johnson could add balance to the attack and loosen the defensive pressure

Disturbingly, the illusion had been growing. At last, the illusion found its reality check here Sunday evening, disappearing along with the Dolphins' four-game winning streak and playoff chances. If you had begun to convince yourself that Joey Harrington might be The Man -- or, worse, if coach Nick Saban had -- then both of you were reminded why that's lunatic thinking.

ACTUALLY, not everyone on the Eagles' defense is having a terrible season. Lito Sheppard is playing pretty darn well. Unfortunately, when you've given up more than 200 yards rushing to three of your last four opponents, having a cornerback who's playing well is like having really nice "spinners" on a car with a broken axle.
