Alex Smith is a fifth year senior, having redshirted as a freshman in 2000. He is a three-year starter at tight end for Stanford and really came on as a senior with 52 receptions, 706 yards and 3 touchdowns. He primarily played special teams as a freshman before moving into the starting tight end spot as a sophomore due to injuries at the position. He has done nothing but improve every year since then and is now Stanford’s all-time leading receiver at the tight end position. He is an excellent receiver with soft hands and the speed to create mismatches against opposing linebackers. He does a pretty good job of blocking, but he needs to improve his strength and blocking technique to be a more complete tight end at the professional level. Smith has the best combination of size, speed, and athleticism at the tight end position in this years draft. He is the best all-around tight end prospect at this point and could be the first one off the board in April. Player News Feed
