Analysis

Alfred Fincher has great deal of experience at middle linebacker, having started in that spot for the past three seasons at Uconn after spending his true freshman season primarily as a backup and special teams player. He is a hard worker who has shown continuous improvement every season he has played. He is a team leader both on and off the field and was elected team captain by his teammates prior to the 2004 season. He had two solid seasons in 02 and 03 but really broke out this past season with his 140 tackle performance, which earned him first team all-big east honors. He has proven to be an extremely durable player, starting all 35 games since becoming a starter three years ago. He has average size and speed for the position but is extremely strong. He is very good at taking on blocks and uses his hands well when shedding those blocks. He is an extremely smart player, who is quick to read and react to what the offense is doing. He is an extremely hard hitter and a sure tackler. He has enough speed to cover most tight ends but may struggle at times if forced to cover a running back coming out of the backfield. Alfred Fincher is a solid player with some upside. He projects as a mid-round pick in the 2005 NFL draft.
