Analysis

Atiyyah Ellison began his career at Coffeyville Community College before transferring to Missouri in 2002. He became an immediate starter upon his arrival there and has been a rather large fixture in their defensive line for the past three seasons. He has a great deal of experience, having started at defensive end in 2002 and defensive tackle the past two seasons. He has good size for a defensive tackle and has the frame to get even bigger. He also has a good combination of strength and speed for the position. He does a good job of penetrating the line of scrimmage and is able to quickly locate the ball carrier and make a play. He has the athleticism to catch the ball carrier from behind and he makes a lot of tackles in the backfield. He is a hard hitter and a very good tackler. He needs to do a better job of disengaging blocks of opposing offensive linemen. Ellison has been a bit of an underachiever at Missouri--He has been getting by on his physical talent alone for the most part. He is needs to improve his technique to be a more effective defender at the professional level. He is still developing as a defensive tackle and has a lot of raw talent but he has the ability to develop into a solid one-gap defensive tackle in the NFL. He should be a 3rd or 4th round pick on draft day.
