Background

Aundrae Allison attended A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina where he played football and basketball. He played basketball all four years but didn’t play football until his junior season when he earned all-conference honors as a receiver and return specialist. As a senior, Aundrae served as team captain, catching 50 passes for 1,101 yards and 9 touchdowns on his way to all-conference and all-state honors. He was selected to participate in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas at the conclusion of the season. Aundrae attended Coffeyville Community College in 2002 but he did not play football. He transferred to the Georgia Military Academy where he caught 33 passes for 410 yards and 6 touchdowns as a freshman. As a sophomore he caught 37 passes for 450 yards and 5 touchdowns. He earned JUCO all-America honors and was named team MVP, helping the team to an 8-2 record and a berth in the Golden Isles Bowl. He finished his JUCO career with 70 receptions for 865 yards and 10 touchdowns. Aundrae transferred to East Carolina where he made an immediate impact, catching 83 passes for 1,024 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior. He was the first East Carolina player to ever total 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He was named first team all-Conference USA for his play as a junior. Aundrae considered leaving school for the 2006 NFL draft, but he opted to return to East Carolina for his senior season. He was limited during spring practices in 2006 while recovering from a knee injury. He returned to catch 62 passes for 708 yards and 4 touchdowns, despite missing three games due to injury. He was named second team all-Conference USA at the conclusion of his senior season.

Analysis

Aundrae Allison has been starting at East Carolina for the past two seasons, having spent his first two seasons at the Georgia Military Academy. He has a good combination of size and speed for a receiver. He has good hands. His lacks elite speed, but he is fast enough to stretch the field. He isn’t afraid to go over the middle and make a difficult catch in traffic. Once he has the ball in his hands, Allison is an elusive open field runner. He gets a lot of yards after the catch and will turn a short pass into a long gain. Aundrae didn’t start playing football until his junior year of high school and he only has two years of division I experience under his belt. He needs to work on running more precise routes as well as improve his blocking to become a more complete receiver at the next level. He has experience as a return specialist and could contribute in that area early on in his career. Aundrae Allison is a bit raw, but he does have a good deal of upside. He should be a second day pick in the 2007 NFL draft.
