Analysis

Barrett Ruud is a player with a great deal of starting experience at the linebacker position. After starting three years with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, he has become one of the greatest defensive players in school history. As a senior, Ruud broke the school record for tackles in a career. The new mark is an impressive 432 tackles. At 6'2" 240 pounds, Ruud has the size you look for in a NFL linebacker. He is an extremely hard worker with a non-stop motor. He is a very intelligent player with a strong knowledge of the game. During his time at Nebraska, he has proven to be an excellent leader both on and off the field. As a tackler he is fundamentally sound and he has the strength to effectively take on blockers. He works well in traffic and takes good angles to the ballcarrier. He has good speed with a 40 time in the 4.6-4.65 range. In the senior bowl practice he was able to stay with wide receiver Taylor Stubblefield 20 yards down the field, effectively taking him out of the play. Ruud has all the tools to be an impact player at the middle linebacker position in the NFL.He is a solid first day pick and could be selected as high as the second round in April.
