Background

Chansi Stuckey attended Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia where he played quarterback on the football team. As a senior, Chansi passed for 1,286 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,008 yards and 10 more scores, leading Northside to the state championship game. He was recruited by Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, and Tennessee, but he opted to attend Clemson instead. Chansi sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. He saw action as a backup to starting quarterback Charlie Whitehurst the following season, completing 11 of 21 passes for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns. He finished fourth on the team in rushing with 136 yards and a touchdown on 17 attempts. He also caught 2 passes for 10 yards on the season. Chansi was converted to receiver the following season. He started 9 games, missing 2 contests due to an ankle injury. He finished the season with 25 receptions for 280 yards. He averaged 7.5 yards per punt return on 4 attempts and had one kickoff return for 17 yards. As a junior, Chansi led the team in receiving with 64 receptions on the year. He set career highs in receptions (64) receiving yards (770) and receiving touchdowns (4). He averaged 7.4 yards and scored a touchdown on 27 punt returns. He was named first team all-ACC for his play as a junior. A thumb injury caused Chansi to miss the team’s spring game in 2006. He returned to catch 50 passes for 700 yards and 3 touchdowns as a senior, despite missing three games due to a broken foot. He was named first team all-ACC for the second consecutive season.

Analysis

Chansi Stuckey is a versatile player who has led the Tigers in receiving the past two seasons after converting to receiver from quarterback in 2004. He is a hard worker and a team player who will do whatever is asked of him. He has good hands and catches the ball with his hands away from his body. He has good body control and does a good job of adjusting while the ball is in the air. He has excellent speed which he uses to gain separation on his opponents and he is a threat to take it the distance anytime he touches the football. He is very elusive in the open field and he does a good job of getting yards after the catch. He can contribute on special teams as a return specialist. Chansi has good height, but is a bit thin for a receiver. He isn’t very physical and will have trouble against bigger, stronger defensive backs. He has had injury problems in the past. That along with his size will cause scouts to question his durability. Chansi has only been playing the receiver position for three years and he is still a bit raw. He will need to improve his route running at the next level. Chansi Stuckey is a versatile player who could contribute immediately as a return specialist for the team that drafts him. He probably will never become a #1 receiver in the NFL but he should develop into a very good slot receiver in time. He should be a late first or early second day pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

Justin Miller, the cornerback and kickoff returner who was the Jets' only Pro Bowl player last season, is expected to miss the rest of the year after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The loss of Miller, who was hurt on what looked like a fairly ordinary tackle on his only kickoff return against Baltimore, is a big one for the Jets, who may have to move other ...
