Benjamin “Chase” Pittman is the younger brother of former University of Texas defensive end Cole Pittman, who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2001. His father Marc Pittman is the author of the book “Raising Cole”. Chase attended Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana where he played defensive end and tight end. Chase earned all-state honors for his play as a junior. As a senior he totaled 63 tackles and 6 sacks, helping Evangel to a state championship. He earned all-state honors for the second consecutive season. Chase was highly recruited and accepted a scholarship to the University of Texas where he would sit out the 2002 season as a redshirt. He saw action in 10 games as a reserve defensive lineman the following season, finishing with 10 tackles and 2 ˝ sacks on the year. Chase decided to transfer to LSU and was forced to sit out the 2004 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He returned the following season to start 12 of 13 games for the Tigers. He totaled a career high 34 tackles and 3 sacks on the season. As a senior, Chase started all 13 games at defensive end, finishing with 27 tackles and a career high 5 ˝ sacks on the year. Analysis
Chase Pittman has been a starting defensive end at LSU for the past two seasons, having sat out the 2004 season as a transfer from Texas. He is a durable player who hasn’t had any major injuries in college. He is an intelligent player and a hard worker with a non-stop motor. He is very physical and has good size for a defensive end. He is strong at the point of attack and is a good run defender with solid tackling skills. He is an average pass rusher who has shown improvement in that area each year. He has long arms and is able to force fumbles and knock down passes at the line of scrimmage. Chase lacks great speed and athleticism for a defensive end. He will have trouble shedding blocks of bigger, stronger offensive linemen at times. He would benefit from bulking up and increasing his strength and he does have the frame in which to do so. Chase Pittman is fairly inexperienced with just two years as a starter under his belt. He will take a few years to develop and looks to be a second day pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Player News Feed
