Background

Dale Robinson attended Holy Cross High School in Queens, New York where he played linebacker on the football team. As a senior he set the Holy Cross record for tackles in a season with 118 stops on the year. He was named first team all-borough and all-city for the second consecutive season and was also second team all-metro and Queens Player of the Year. Robinson went on to play at the division II C.W. Post as a freshman, totaling 97 tackles on his way to all-conference and all-freshman honors. As a sophomore Dale went to Glendale Community College in Arizona. He finished the season with 114 tackles, 10 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. He was named league Player of the Year for his effort as a sophomore. Robinson transferred to Arizona State where he became an immediate contributor, finishing second on the team with 93 tackles. He also had a career high 4 ½ sacks and 1 interception. He was named honorable mention all-pac ten for his play as a junior. As a senior Robinson led the team in tackles with 115 stops on the year. He also had 4 sacks and a career high 3 forced fumbles on his way to first team all-pac ten honors. He was named team MVP and PAC-10 defensive player of the year for his performance as a senior.

Analysis

Dale Robinson has started at both strong side linebacker and middle linebacker at Arizona State over the past two seasons. During that time he has proven to be a very durable player, starting 23 of 24 games. He is an extremely hard worker both on the field and in the film room. He has a non-stop motor and always seems to be around the football. He is a hard hitter and a very good tackler. Robinson excels at making plays in the open field. He makes a lot of plays in the opponent’s backfield and is an excellent pass rusher. Robinson only has two years of division I experience, having played his first two seasons in junior college. He lacks ideal size and speed for the position. He may need to bulk up and increase his strength to play in the middle at the next level, as he lacks the speed to play on the outside. He may have problems shedding blocks of opposing offensive linemen and will benefit if he has a big defensive tackle to keep him clean. He can be a liability in coverage and may only be a two down linebacker at the professional level.
