Dan Inman is the son of Wayne Inman who was a great offensive lineman for East Carolina in the late 70’s. Wayne is currently the Head Coach at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Dan attended Southview High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina where he was a four-sport athlete as a member of the football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling teams. On the football team, Dan earned all-conference honors as a junior and all-state honors as a senior. He was selected to participate in the North Carolina vs. South Carolina Shrine Bowl and the North Carolina East vs. West All-Star game. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Georgia where he sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. Dan was named the team’s “most improved offensive lineman” the following spring, earning a starting position in the process. He went on to start 12 games at tackle and was named to various all-freshman teams at the conclusion of the season. He held onto his starting position as a sophomore where he once again started all 12 games for the Bulldogs. Dan began to receive national recognition as a junior when he was named second team all-SEC after his third consecutive season as a starter, helping the Bulldogs to an SEC championship. He suffered a setback going into his senior year when he was suspended for the first two games of the season after violating an undisclosed team rule. He returned to start the remainder of the season giving him a total of 48 career starts over the past four years.
Analysis
Dan Inman has a ton of experience against top competition, having started at offensive tackle for the past four years at Georgia in the SEC. During that time, Dan has proven to be a very durable player who rarely misses time due to injury. He’s a coach’s son and an intelligent player with a good knowledge of the game. He has the “mean streak” you like to see in an offensive lineman. He has great size for a tackle with the frame to add additional weight in the future. He is a solid pass protector and has the ability to develop into a great run blocker. His height works against him at times as he plays too high, allowing defenders to get under his pads and win the leverage battle. He needs to work on bending his knees more to keep this from happening as often in the future. Daniel lacks the quick feet and athleticism required to play left tackle at the next level. He will have trouble with speed rushers coming off the edge. This flaw was most noticeable in the Florida game when defensive end Derrick Harvey blew past Inman, forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. That touchdown ended up being the game-deciding score in a 21-14 loss for the Bulldogs. Dan is probably too tall to play inside and will most likely be limited to playing right tackle in the NFL. He does have experience as a long snapper on field goals and extra points, a skill that could only add to his draft day value. He projects as a second day pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Player News Feed
