Demario Minter attended Stephenson High School in the Atlanta area where he was an all-state performer in both football and track. As a junior, Demario recorded 35 tackles and 2 interceptions. As a senior he totaled 52 tackles and 18 pass break-up with 4 interceptions on his way to all-state honorable mention honors. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Georgia where he spent his first two seasons primarily as a backup and special teams player. He was suspended the first two games of the 2003 season after being charged with possession of marijuana. In the spring of 2004, Minter earned a starting cornerback job and was named most improved defensive back on the Georgia Bulldogs’ squad. He recorded 51 tackles and broke up 10 passes his first year as a starter but failed to intercept a single pass on the year. Minter received the Bulldogs’ “true grit” award after spring practices in 2005. In his second year as a starter, Minter totaled 46 tackles, 9 pass break-ups, and the first 2 interceptions of his four year career. Following his senior season Minter was invited to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
Analysis
Demario Minter has a good combination of size, speed, and athleticism for a cornerback. He has good range and the ability to cover receivers man to man. He has fluid hips and a good backpedal. He possesses good speed and is rarely beaten deep. He does a good job of shedding blocks and is a solid wrap-up tackler. Demario is a good leader and a tough player who has played through minor injuries in the past. He has also proven to be a good special teams player. The biggest question when it comes to Minter is his ball skills. He drops too many balls and doesn’t get a lot of interceptions (2 in his career). He also could do a better job of adjusting to the ball when it is in the air. He does have problems against larger receivers. He needs to be more physical against both the run and pass. Demario was suspended the first two games of the 2003 season after being charged with possession of marijuana. Demario has all the tools to be a good cornerback at the professional level but he just hasn’t been a big playmaker in college. He looks like a second round pick in a weak crop of cornerbacks and a good combine performance could solidify his draft position. Player News Feed
