Derrick Johnson, the 2004 Butkus award winner, is the best prospect at the linebacker position to enter the NFL draft in several years. He is an explosive tackler, with the speed and agility to make takles sideline to sideline as well as to drop back into coverage when needed. He has great instincts and is one of those players who seems to always be around the football. At 230lbs, Derrick has added some bulk since the beginning of his college career. However, he needs to continue to add strength and bulk to allow him to better fight off blocks of opposing offensive linemen. If it were acceptable for a linebacker to be the first player taken, Johnson would have an excellent shot at being the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft. But the fact is only three linebackers have been selected #1 overall in NFL draft history, the most recent being Aundray Bruce taken by the Atlanta Falcons in 1988. Derrick Johnson is as big a stud as you will find in this years draft and should be at top 5 pick in April. Player News Feed
