Derrick Strait is not a burner. We'll get that out of the way immediately. He does not have elite speed, and that fact could keep him from becoming an elite cover cornerback. With that said, his overall skills in every other phase of the game--fast play recognition, aggressiveness in run support, ability to cover in space--will, at the very least, make him a solid player quickly. In a zone-based defensive scheme he will fit right in and become a solid contributor quickly, and while he might not be the flashiest player at the position, he should be a good cornerback in the NFL for years to come.
