Background

Dusty Dvoracek played high school football at Lake Dallas high school in Dallas, Texas where he also was a power lifter and a shot put thrower. He started at both guard and defensive tackle his final three years at Lake Dallas. As a junior, Dusty was named second team all-area and all-district for his performance. His junior year Dvoracek made first team all-region and all-district for both offense and defense. As a senior, Dvoracek racked up 79 tackles, 9 ½ sacks, 10 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries. After high school, Dvoracek accepted a scholarship to play at the University of Oklahoma where he became an immediate contributor. He played in 11 games as a true freshman, recording 25 tackles and 2 sacks on the year. As a sophomore he totaled 25 tackles and three sacks, despite being slowed by a toe injury most of the season. His junior season was a breakout year for Dvoracek who recorded 40 tackles and 7 sacks on the year. Going into his senior season he seemed sure to be a first day pick in the 2005 NFL draft. Two games into the season, Dvoracek was dismissed from the team for an off the field incident which put a friend of his in intensive care. He finished with just five tackles in the two games he did play in. After being granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA for hardship reason, Dusty Dvoracek was allowed to rejoin the team for his final season. After tearing his bicep in the red/white game this past April, Dvoracek was out of action for the summer and missed the first game of the season. He returned to record 34 tackles and 4 sacks on the season.

Analysis

Dusty Dvoracek has good athleticism but just average size for a defensive tackle. He is a tough player who plays hard and gives his all on every single down. He has good strength and once lifted 1,555 pounds as a power lifter in high school. He has good intelligence and always took care of business in the classroom as well as on the field. He is a very good run defender who also can get after the quarterback on passing downs. He has a quick first step which allows him to beat most offensive linemen off the snap of the ball; however he may need to bulk up some to matchup better against some of the larger linemen in the NFL. He has had his share of injury and off the field problems which would be two big concerns of NFL teams that are interested in drafting him. He has had anger problems in the past and was kicked off of the Oklahoma football team two games into the 2004 season because of that problem. Dusty Dvoracek isn’t the most gifted athlete, but he is a player who will get the most out of his ability. He has a good chance to be a late first or early second day pick in the 2006 NFL draft.
