Earl Everett attended South Sumter High School in Bushnell, Florida where he played quarterback, tight end, linebacker, defensive end, safety and kick returner over the course of his career. He was a three-time all-area, all-central Florida, and all-state performer. He served as team captain his senior year, leading the team to it’s third consecutive regional championship despite missing much of the season due to injury. He finished his career with 232 tackles, 13 sacks, 7 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles to his credit. He carried the ball 159 times for 1,423 yards and 27 touchdowns in his career. He also caught 21 passes for 523 yards. As a quarterback, Everett completed 72 pass attempts for 1,159 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was considered to be the second best linebacker and a top 15 overall prospect in the state. He was selected to play in the California vs. Florida all-star game following his senior season. Earl was recruited by Nebraska, Florida State, Miami, and LSU, but he opted to attend the University of Florida instead. Everett saw action in every game as a true freshman, receiving six starts. He finished with 52 tackles and 3 sacks on the year and was named to the SEC all-freshman team. He started 11 games as a sophomore, missing the Vanderbilt game due to a concussion. He totaled 74 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and a team leading 4 ½ sacks on the season. He was named second team all-SEC at the conclusion of the season. As a junior, Everett led the team in tackles with 72 stops on the year. He also had a sack, a forced fumble, and 2 interceptions.
Analysis
Earl Everett has a great deal of experience against top competition, having started at linebacker since his true freshman season at Florida. He has a good combination of speed and athleticism for a linebacker. He makes plays all over the field and he is a very good tackler. He has fluid hips in coverage and the speed to stay with most tight ends and running backs coming out of the backfield. He makes a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage and he can rush the passer as well. He lacks ideal size and strength for a linebacker. He isn’t very good at shedding blockers, preferring to run around blocks instead. He would benefit from bulking up and increasing his strength and he does have the frame in which to do so. He isn’t very instinctive and he often relies on his athletic ability alone. Everett is a versatile player who could play inside or outside. He projects best on the weakside where he is protected and free to run around and make plays. Earl Everett is one of the most athletic linebackers available and should be a late first day to early second day pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Player News Feed
