Eric Shelton began his career at Florida State. After his freshman year he decided to sit out the 2002 season in order to transfer to Louisville. At Louisville he split time with Lionel Gates and Michael Bush, so he never really had the opportunity to show that he can carry the load by himself for an entire season. He does have one year of eligiblity left, but has decided to enter the draft early. Shelton is a big, powerful runner who is tough to bring down and will run through arm tackles. He doesn't have great breakaway speed, but he has very good speed for a back his size. He isn't very elusive--He is strictly a between the tackles runner but he does have some ability to bounce a play outside if the running lane is clogged up. He is one of the best backs in the draft around the goal line and he has a real nose for the endzone. He didn't get many opportunites as a receiver out of the backfield at Louisville (seven career receptions) and this may be an area he needs to work on. He does have potential as a blocker but he could use some technique refinement in that area. He had less than 350 carries in college so he has very little wear and tear on his body. He has a great deal of upside and could prove to be a real steal for a team in the third round. Player News Feed
