Analysis
Eric Weddle has a ton of experience having started all four seasons a Utah. During that time he has proven to be a very versatile player, starting at cornerback and safety. He returned punts for two years and even lined up at receiver and running back from time to time. His combination of size and speed allows him to cover just about any receiver that lines up against him. He put his strong cover skills on display in the 2005 Emerald Bowl when he lined up opposite Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson and held him to just 19 yards on 2 receptions. He has good hands and is a threat to take it all the way after the interception. Against San Diego State, Eric had 3 interceptions, taking all 3 back for touchdowns. Eric is a tough, aggressive run defender and a hard hitter. He has been used quite often on the blitz and has proven to be effective getting to the quarterback. Eric also has served as a punt returner on special teams which will only add to his draft day value. Eric Weddle is a versatile player who could project free safety, strong safety, or cornerback at the next level. He should be a first day pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Player News Feed
