Analysis

Gino Guidugli has a great deal of experience as a starting quarterback. He came in as an immediate starter for Cincinnati and was named Conference USA freshman of the year in 2001. In that time he has managed to break just about every school passing record in the book. He has most of the physical attributes you look for in a quarterback. He has good size and the arm strength to make all the required throws. He can get out of the pocket and make an accurate throw on the run or make a play with his feet when required. He needs to improve his ability to read a defense. He locks onto the primary receiver too often and needs to work on going through his progressions. He will be overconfident at times and force the ball into coverage. He has been known to throw a lot of interceptions in his career but he did improve in that area as a senior, with a touchdown to interception ratio of better than 3-1 in 2004. He doesn’t have the greatest mechanics but this is something that can be fixed with good coaching. Guidugli is an extremely tough player who has shown the ability to play through injuries. He broke his hand this past season and played in the Fort Worth Bowl with his hand swollen, leading his team to a victory over Marshall in the process. He is an excellent leader on the field, but he’s had some off the field problems that could cause some teams to question his character. He has had two arrests on his record during his time at Cincinnati. Guidugli is a second day prospect with the potential to develop into a solid starting quarterback down the road.
