Round: 4 | Pick: #11 | Overall: #108 | Team: New Orleans Saints Background
Jahri Evans came to Bloomsburg from Frankford High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received a medical redshirt in 2001 after missing the season with a broken tibia. He served as a backup tackle in 2002 after returning from the injury. As a sophomore he earned a starting position. He would hold on to that position for the next three seasons, earning first team all-PSAC honors all three seasons and first team all-American honors as a junior and senior.
Analysis
Jahri Evans is a versatile player with a great deal of experience, having started at offensive tackle for Bloomsburg over the past three seasons. He has a good combination of size and strength for an offensive lineman. He gets good leverage and is a great run blocker. He does a good job of finishing his blocks but he does struggle when forced to block in space. He isn’t a great athlete but he does have the ability to get to the second level in the running game. He has long arms which help keep defenders away from his body in pass protection. He lacks the quick feet you look for in a tackle and he will struggle against speed rushers. Evans didn’t play against top competition, spending his entire career in college at the division II level. He is a versatile player who could play tackle or guard; however, his lack of athletic ability will probably force him inside to guard at the professional level. Jahri needs to improve his overall technique but he is a hard worker with a ton of upside. He should be an early second day pick in the 2006 NFL draft. Player News Feed
