Analysis

Jamaal Brimmer is a player who could've entered the 2004 NFL draft, but opted to return for his senior season at UNLV. It now appears as though he made a wise decision. Brimmer was advised he would be drafted in the 4th round if he left school a year early. Jamaal has good size, but just average speed for a safety. He makes up for his lack of speed with great instincts and intelligence. He is among the best when it comes to play recognition. This comes primarily from his hard work. He puts as much time in as anyone when it comes to watching film and studying opposing offenses. Jamaal is a fundamentally sound tackler and he's excellent on the blitz. He may struggle in coverage at the professional level. Another negative of Brimmer is the level of competition he has played against in the Mountain West Conference. However, he has proven he can get the job done against a higher level of competition. As a junior, Brimmer recorded eleven tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and had a fumble return for a touchdown in an upset win against the then 14th ranked Wisconsin Badgers in 2003. Running a good 40 time at the combine would really boost his draft stock.
