James Butler doesn't have a great deal of experience as a starter, having spent his first two seasons primarily as a backup and special teams player. He has proven to be a true playmaker after earning a starting spot his junior year at Georgia Tech. He proved he could do it all against Wake Forest when he posted two interceptions, two forced fumbles and one blocked field goal in 2003. He has good size and above average speed for a safety. He has excellent ball skills but needs to put in some work on his technique. He has shown the ability to be good in run support as well but he sometimes takes poor angles to the ballcarrier. James is a true "student of the game" who spends a great deal of time watching film during the season. He is a player who hasn't played enough yet to have realized his full potential. James Butler has a great deal of upside and should be among the top free safeties selected on draft day. Player News Feed
