Background

Jason Hill attended Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep in San Francisco, California where he played football and basketball. He played both receiver and defensive back at Sacred Heart and was named honorable mention all-region on both sides of the ball as a senior. He also finished second for city player of the year that season. He accepted a scholarship to Washington State where he was primarily a gunner on special teams player as a true freshman in 2003. He took a one week leave of absence from the team when his father passed away but he was able to return the following week. He earned a starting position as a sophomore, starting all eleven games on the year. He finished the season with 45 receptions for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging over 20 yards per catch. He was named team offensive MVP and second team all-pac ten for his play as a sophomore. He returned as a junior to catch 62 passes for 1,097 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was named second team all-conference for the second consecutive season. Jason Hill entered the 2006 season as one of the top receivers in the nation.

Analysis

Jason Hill has a good combination of size, speed, and athleticism for a receiver. He is a big, physical receiver who uses his size to put himself in position to make the catch. He runs good routes and has solid hands. He does a good job of catching the ball with his hands away from his body. He catches the ball in stride and isn't the most elusive runner in the open field, but he does do a good job of getting yards after the catch. He adjusts well to the ball while it's in the air and he does have the speed to make plays down the field. Hill is a tough receiver who isn't afraid to go over the middle and make a difficult catch in traffic. He is a team player and an excellent leader. Jason needs should be a better blocker for a receiver his size. He will need to improve in that area to become a more complete receiver at the next level. Jason Hill had excellent performances at the Senior Bowl and combine. He should now be selected within the first two rounds of the 2007 NFL draft.
