Background

Jerome Harrison attended Central High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he served as team captain on the football team in each of his final two seasons. As a junior, Jerome was named first team all-conference and honorable mention all-state. As a senior he finished with a school record 2,338 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was named first team all-state and honorable mention all-American for his play. Jerome initially committed to play at Eastern Michigan but he ended up attending Pasadena City College. He started seven games as a freshman, totaling 790 yards and 9 touchdowns on the season. As a sophomore, Jerome finished with 1,059 yards and 10 touchdowns on a team that finished the season with a 0-10 record. He was considered to be one of the top five junior college running back prospects and he transferred to Washington State where he became an immediate contributor. As a junior, Harrison finished with 900 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns on 174 attempts. He added 10 catches for 69 yards. He was named honorable mention all-pac ten for his performance that year. His senior season was a breakout year for Harrison as he rushed for 1,900 yards and scored 16 touchdowns on 308 carries. He also caught 24 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown.

Analysis

Jerome Harrison has good speed and quickness for a running back. He has good balance and his speed allows him to get outside and turn the corner. He is an elusive open field runner who is a threat to take it the distance at any time. Though he lacks great size and strength, Harrison is a tough runner who will break some tackles and gain additional yardage. He also has pretty good hands and has proven to be a reliable receiver out of the backfield. Jerome Harrison doesn’t have a great deal of experience against top competition, having only started a year and a half since transferring from Pasadena City College. He lacks ideal size and strength for an every down back and he isn’t a great inside runner. This lack of size does raise questions about Jerome’s durability as well as his ability to carry the load over the course of a full NFL season. If he can improve his blocking ability, Jerome could make a good third down back at the professional level. He should be an early second day pick in the 2006 NFL draft.
