Analysis

Jonathan Clinkscale redshirted in 2000 and started half of his redshirt freshman season at right guard in 2001. He has a ton of experience as a starter, having been a starting guard in each of his final three seasons at Wisconsin. During that time he has proven to be a very durable player. He only missed one start due to injury in his entire career for the Badgers. Clinkscale is a bit of an overachiever. He doesn't have the size or speed you look for in a starting guard, but he gets the job done. He is a smart player who knows blocking schemes and uses angles to his advantage. He has good strength and is a very good run blocker but he will be overpowered by larger defensive tackles at times. When it comes to speed he runs a 5.5 40 and a 1.9 10 and he will struggle when it comes to getting to the second level as a run blocker. He needs to improve his technique as a pass protector to become a better all-around player at the professional level. Clinkscale doesn't possess all of the physical tools you look for in a guard, but he is a smart player and a hard worker. He has the ability to develop into a starter for an NFL team down the road. Clinkscale was one of four players who recently tested positive on an NFL drug test. This positive test could cause him to fall to the later rounds on draft day.
