Background

Josh Beekman attended Amsterdam High School in Amsterdam, New York where he played football and threw shot put on the track and field team. He played both offensive and defensive line for Amsterdam where he was a four-year starter, earning all-area honors each season. As a senior, Beekman recorded 98 tackles and 3 sacks on defense. Following his senior season, Josh accepted a scholarship to Boston College where he sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. He saw action in every game the following season, starting two games on his was to several freshman all-big east teams. By his sophomore season, Josh was a full-time starter at right guard where he started all 12 games. As a junior he once again started all 12 games on his way to second team all-ACC honors. He served as team captain as a senior, starting all 12 games including three starts at center. He was named first team all-ACC at the conclusion of his senior season.

Analysis

Josh Beekman is an experienced offensive lineman who has started the past three seasons at right guard for Boston College, including a few spot starts at center as a senior. During that time he has proven to be a very durable player who hasn't missed a game since taking the starting job as a sophomore. He is an intelligent player and a hard worker. He has a non-stop motor and simply does not take plays off. He is a great run blocker, who displays good technique and is very strong at the point of attack. He lacks ideal height for an offensive lineman but he does a good job of using leverage to his advantage. He has good agility with the ability to hit moving targets. Josh Beekman is a great run blocker but will need to improve his pass blocking to become a more complete offensive lineman at the next level. Josh showed the ability to play center as a senior, starting three games in the middle. He could play guard or center at the next level and should be a first day pick in the 2007 NFL draft.
