Jovon Bouknight attended Manual High School in Denver, Colorado where he played quarterback and safety on the football team. As a senior he passed for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also rushed for 560 yards. He was named first team all-city as a quarterback and second team all-city as a safety. He was named all-state as a quarterback and both offensive and defensive MVP at Manual. He was recruited by Baylor, Colorado State, New Mexico, and Oklahoma State, but opted to attend Wyoming instead, sitting out the 2001 season as a redshirt. The following season he tied the school’s freshman record with 63 receptions. He had 689 yards and 3 touchdowns on the season. As a sophomore he finished with 47 receptions for 746 yards and 7 touchdowns, earning honorable mention all-mountain west honors. As a junior he totaled 63 receptions for 1,075 yards and 7 touchdowns. He also averaged over 22 yards per kickoff return. His senior season was Bouknight’s most productive season at Wyoming, finishing with career highs in receptions (77), yards (1116), and touchdowns (12), on his way to first team all-mountain west honors.
Analysis
Jovon Bouknight has a good combination of size and strength for a receiver. He has a great deal of experience having started the past four seasons for Wyoming. He is a hard worker who runs good routes and has great hands. He is a tough player who will make a difficult catch in traffic. He is good at making players miss in the open field, allowing him to get additional yards after the catch. He is also a solid blocker. Bouknight didn’t play against top competition in college. He lacks great speed and probably won’t offer much as a deep threat in the NFL. He also has experience as a kick returner which will only add to his draft day value. Jovon Bougknight has the ability to contribute on special teams immediately and should be on an NFL roster this season. He has a chance to be drafted late in the 2006 NFL draft. Player News Feed
