Analysis

One of the best guards in the 2004 NFL draft-- Smiley played a major role in an offense that ran for over 2,000 yards this past season, and was outstanding in pass protection, only giving up 1 sack on the year. He is on the small side for a guard (298lbs) but he has the frame to add bulk. Smiley is a Very atletic lineman who holds the Alabama offensive lineman records for power clean (415lbs), vertical leap (32.5), and the forty (4.87). He's been starting since the first game of his freshman year, a pretty impressive feat for a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Smiley began his career registering 133 knockdown blocks as a freshman. He followed up that performance with a incredible sophomore year, posting 177 knockdown blocks
in 2002, including 18 in one game against the Tennessee Volunteers. Justin started 35 games in his 3 year career at Alabama.

Smiley recently put on an impressive display at the combine averging 5.0 in the 40, as well as having one of the best positional workouts of all offensive linemen. Teams were reportedly very impressed by his interview as well. Smiley should be a 2nd round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
