Kerry Rhodes is a two-year starter at free safety for louisville, having spent his first two seasons primarily as a reserve defensive back and special teams player. He made the most of his time on special teams, blocking several key field goal attempts. He was given the opportunity to start in 2003 and he had a breakout year, posting 82 tackles and three interceptions. He followed that up with another outstanding year as a senior, putting up 57 tackles and six interceptions (tied for 2nd most INTs in division I). He became a vocal leader for a defense that helped take Louisville to an 11-1 record this past season. He did have his ups and downs as a senior, dropping a crucial interception that may have cost Louisville an undefeated season in a close loss to the Miami Hurricanes. He made up for that mistake in the Liberty Bowl by intercepting a pass on the last play of the game to seal the victory, handing Boise State it's first loss in nearly two years. Kerry has excellent size and good speed for a safety. He developed into a bigtime playmaker as a senior but he is still a little raw when it comes to his coverage ability. He struggles at times in man to man coverage and doesn't always put himself in the best position to make a play on the ball. He has good strength, is very aggressive against the run and is a solid tackler. He doesn't have a great deal of starting experience and he is still developing. He has a great deal of upside and will make a nice pick for someone on the second day of the 2005 NFL draft.
