He was recruited by Texas Christian, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech, but he opted to attend the University of Houston instead. He quickly earned a starting, making him the first true freshman to ever start at quarterback for the University of Houston. He was named third team all-Conference USA and Conference USA freshman of the year at the conclusion of the season. Analysis

Kevin Kolb has a ton of experience, having started all four seasons at quarterback for the University of Houston. During that time he has proven to be an extremely durable player, starting all 50 games of his college career. He is a good leader and a hard worker. He has good size and intelligence for the position. He has a quick release and the arm strength to make all the throws required of an NFL quarterback. He does a good job of going through his progression and can buy time with his feet when needed. He stands tall in the pocket and will deliver the football with a defender in his face. He has good pocket presence and the athleticism to get out of the pocket and make an accurate throw on the run. He can also make a play with his feet when needed. He is a bit of a streaky passer and lacks great accuracy on his deep ball. He will make poor decisions at times which can lead to costly interceptions. He operated primarily out of the shotgun at Houston and will need to adapt to taking snaps from under center and reading the defense as he drops back. Kevin Kolb has a lot of tools but will need to prove that he isn’t a product of the system. He should be a late first to early second day pick in the 2007 NFL draft.
