Analysis

Larry Brackins is a little known wide receiver mostly due to the fact that he played at Pearl River Community College. Although he played against a lower level of competition, he is one of the most talented receivers in the draft. He signed with Troy state out of high school but went to play basketball at Feather River Community College instead. He transferred to Pearl River Community College where he began playing college football. He has been a man among boys at the JUCO level. At 6'5", 220, 4.50, he has an excellent combination of size and speed. He also has good strength and leaping ability with a 40 inch vertical. The first thing that catches your eye when you watch Brackins is the way he always goes up to get the football, making him nearly impossible to defend with his height and leaping ability. He does a good job of adjusting to the ball in the air and has very good hands. He has enough speed to gain seperation on the deep routes and will make the tough catch over the middle, take a hit, and hang on to the football. He is an excellent open field runner, who does a good job of getting yards after the catch. He is a very capable blocker, who uses his superior size and strength to his advantage. One area he can improve on is running more precise routes. Level of competition and lack of experience are two areas that will hurt his draft stock. He had the opportunity to transfer to Florida State but he opted to enter the draft. Academic problems are believed to be the primary factor that motivated him to enter the draft, which may raise concerns on his ability to learn an NFL playbook. He is very talented player but he is a boom or bust prospect at this point. He may take a couple years to develop and could be drafted as high as the third round or as low as the fifth round in April.
