On defense he totaled 86 tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception. He was named first team all-state at the conclusion of his senior season. Le’Ron was considered to be one of the best prospects in the state of Alabama. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Alabama where he saw action in 11 of 13 games as a true freshman, missing two games due to a turf toe injury. He started one game, finishing the season with 1 carry for 1 yard and 2 receptions for 35 yards. As a sophomore, Le’Ron began the season as the team’s backup fullback. Analysis
Le’Ron McClain is a versatile fullback with a good combination of size and strength for the position. He is an excellent lead blocker who will take out linebackers and pave the way for his running back. He wasn’t used much as a runner at Alabama (36 attempts in 4 years), but he is a pretty good between the tackles runner who can be effective in short yardage and goal line situations. He has good leg drive and rarely loses yardage on a carry (no negative yardage runs as a senior). His size and strength allow him to run through arm tackles and make him a difficult player to bring down. He isn’t a very elusive runner and he isn’t likely to break long runs. He has soft hands and is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. He is very skilled at reading and picking up the blitz in pass protection. Le’Ron lacks great speed and won’t make many big plays as a runner or receiver. He isn’t a great athlete, but he moves pretty well for a player his size. Le’Ron McClain is a versatile fullback who can block, catch, and run the ball in short yardage situations. He is arguably the best fullback in the draft and should be a mid-round selection in April.
