Analysis

Logan Mankins redshirted in 2000 before becoming the team’s starting left tackle in 2001. He had a 28 game streak of consecutive games started before tearing his ACL just prior to the 2003 season, sidelining him for the entire year. He returned as a senior and had an outstanding season. At the conclusion of the season, Mankins was voted team MVP by his teammates. He started three years at left tackle for Fresno State but he is probably better suited to play guard in the NFL. He played guard at the Senior Bowl and had an impressive week down in Mobile. He displays good strength and has a real “mean streak when he straps his helmet on. He is a very good pass blocker who does a good job of picking up the blitz. He is an outstanding drive blocker and he has the ability to get to the second level and take out a linebacker in the running game. He could play tackle in the NFL but he will most likely play guard. His lack of experience at guard could hurt him a little bit on draft day. Another area of concern could be how durable he is. Anytime a player tears an ACL, durability is a concern. Mankins recovered well from his injury and had a very good senior season so he should be fine in that area. Mankins is a solid first day prospect who could be drafted as high as the middle of round two.
