Playing the Quarterback position seems to run in the McCown family, Luke McCown's brother Randy was the starting quarterback for the Texas A&M Aggies. His brother Josh was recently named the starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals by new Head Coach Dennis Green. Luke has a great deal of experience, having started for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs since his freshman year. From the beginning, McCown proved he was a special player. He tossed a NCAA Freshman record 72 passes against the Miami Hurricanes in 2000--Throwing for over 400 yards and 4 total touchdowns on the day.

Even though he comes from a small school, the level of competition is not a factor with McCown. In addition to facing Miami twice he's also played teams such as Penn State, Texas A&M, and Clemson. He seemed to upset at least one major school every year having beaten Michigan State as a senior and Oklahoma State as a junior. He had two incredible games against Auburn averaging over 400 yards and 3-4 touchdown passes per game against the Tigers.

Luke has a very quick release and can make all the throws. The only knock on McCown has been his arm strength, very similar to former Louisiana Tech quarterback Tim Rattay when he entered the draft. What McCown may lack in arm strength, he makes up for with great touch. He is underrated as an athlete; he can get out of the pocket and really fire the ball. He's a hard worker in the film room and is adept at reading defenses. Luke needs to bulk up some and he has the frame in which to do so. I think Luke McCown is a great prospect. He could be a steal for some lucky team on draft day.
