Analysis

Madison Hedgecock has played just about everywhere on the football field at one time or another. In high school he was primarily a running back who also played defensive end, tight end, and linebacker. He spent his first year and a half at North Carolina at fullback before moving to defensive end halfway through his sophomore season. He played exclusively at defensive end as a junior where he recorded 55 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks on the season before moving back to fullback as a senior. After the season, Hedgecock displayed good hands as a tight end in the East-West Shrine Game, then showed his blocking and short yardage running ability as a fullback in the Hula Bowl a week later. As a fullback, Hedgecock is a dominating lead blocker who loves to hit people. He lacks great speed and doesn't offer much as a runner other than short yardage and goaline situations, but he also has good hands as a reciever out of the backfield. Hedgecock doesn't have a great deal of experience at fullback and he is still developing. He has a great deal of upside as a traditional lead-blocking fullback and should be drafted on the second day of the 2005 NFL draft.
