Marcus Vick is the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and the cousin of Oakland Raiders quarterback Aaron Brooks. Marcus attended Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia where he played quarterback on the football team. As a junior he passed for 2,180 yards and 19 touchdowns. As a senior he passed for 1,746 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 702 yards and 13 more scores on his way to second team all-state honors. He was considered to be one of the top 10 quarterback prospects in the nation and accepted a scholarship to Virginia Tech where he sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. As a sophomore he saw action in 11 games, playing some quarterback and some receiver. He finished the season completing 30 of 57 passes for 475 yards and 2 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. He carried the ball 37 times for 102 yards and caught 4 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. He missed the 2004 season due to a suspension after being arrested for reckless driving and possession of marijuana. He returned in the spring of 2005 to earn the team's starting quarterback position. As a junior he completed 177 of 289 pass attempts for 2,393 yards and 17 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He also carried the ball 147 times for 380 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season. Marcus was dismissed from the Virginia Tech football team after an incident in which he allegedly pulled a gun out and waved it at a 17 year old in a McDonald's parking lot after the season. Because of this he has decided to enter the 2006 NFL draft after his junior season.
Analysis
Marcus Vick is a great athlete and a versatile player who has seen action at both quarterback and receiver during his time at Virginia Tech. Vick has a quick release and enough arm strength to make most of the throws required of an NFL quarterback. He has become extremely accurate on his short to intermediate range passes. He is a mobile quarterback with great speed. He has the ability to avoid the rush, get out of the pocket, and make an accurate throw on the run. He is not nearly close to being as great of a runner as his brother; however, he can make a play with his feet when needed. Marcus Vick lacks the ideal size of an NFL quarterback. He lacks a great deal of experience, with really only one full year as a starting quarterback. He lacks a great deep ball and can be an inconsistent passer at times. Character is the biggest problem for Vick. His off the field problems include: giving alcohol to underage girls, alledegly having sex with an underage girl, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, stomping on Elvis Dumervil's knee after a play, and waving a firearm at a 17 year old in a McDonald's parking lot. Marcus could project as a quarterback or receiver at the next level. Wherever he does play he is extremely raw and will take some work. He is a gifted athlete but his immaturity and questionable character could push him back to a late round pick or force him to sign as an undrafted free agent. Player News Feed
