Quentin Moses attended Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia where he played football and basketball. He was an all-state performer in basketball and participated in the Georgia North-South game as a senior. On the football team he served as team captain and was one of the team’s best players, racking up 77 tackles, 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries as a senior. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Georgia where he sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt. Quentin saw action in all 14 games the following season, totaling 37 tackles and 2 ½ sacks on the year. He also played basketball for Georgia in the spring. As a sophomore he finished with 23 tackles, 6 ½ sacks, and was named to the SEC honor roll. His junior season was Moses’ first season as a full-time starter. He received the Coffee County Hustle Award after spring practices and went on to become one of the better defensive ends in the nation, totaling 44 tackles and 11 ½ sacks on the year. He was named first team all-SEC and was once again a member of the SEC honor roll. Quentin returned as a senior and got off to a good start, being named the team’s most outstanding defensive lineman in spring drills.
Analysis
Quentin Moses has played against top competition in the SEC over the past four years at Georgia. He is a tremendous pass rusher with an extremely quick first step which allows him to beat most offensive linemen off the snap. He explodes off the line and utilizes a plethora of pass rush moves. He lacks great timed speed but has good closing speed getting to the quarterback. He has a long, lean frame with long arms which allow him to knock down passes and force fumbles. Quentin isn’t very stout at the point of attack and he needs to get better leverage against his opponents. His lack of ideal size and strength work against him in the running game as he can be pushed around by larger, stronger offensive tackles. He would benefit from bulking up and increasing his strength and he does have a good frame to work with. He needs to improve his ability to defend the run to become a better all-around defensive end, but he does have one thing all teams covet, the ability to rush the passer. Quentin Moses is a good athlete with a great deal of upside. He could play defensive end or outside linebacker at the next level. Quentin's stock has fallen a bit, but he should still be a second or third round pick on draft day. Player News Feed
