Ronald Fields came to Mississippi State after playing one year at a Hargrave Military Academy in 2000. He has played in every game of his four-year career and has been a starter since his sophomore season. In that time he has proven to be a very durable player who hasn't had any serious injuries. He has excellent size and strength, but he lacks ideal athleticism. He is strictly a two-gap defensive tackle who excels at stopping the run. Against the pass he does a good job of collapsing the pocket, but he doesn't have great closing speed on the quarterback and he won't get you many sacks. He only had one sack in his four-year career at Mississippi State. Conditioning could be a problem area for Fields. He gets tired easily in games and he has had problems with his weight in the past. He doesn't always give 100%. He needs to be on a team with a coach that will motivate him and make sure he stays in shape. How he does in his workouts could be the determining factor on where Fields is drafted. At this point he should be a third round pick in April. Player News Feed
