Analysis

Sean Taylor is easily the most talented player for his position in the draft, and his combination of size, speed and instincts make one of the top prospects overall for 2004. Taylor has linebacker size at safety to go along with cornerback speed. He can play either safety position with equal skill, and as a rover patrolling the secondary in zone he may well be unmatched in football. He is very similar talentwise to Roy Williams, a top ten selection from Oklahoma by the Dallas Cowboys in 2002, however, Sean has one weakness he does not share with Williams; he tends to shy away from contact with big ends or backs. For a man of his sheer size for the position, this could be a concern if he is asked to play near the line. However, at free safety in a zone scheme it won't be a problem, and his nearly unmatched skills will make Sean Taylor one of the best defensive backs in the National Football League.
