Background

Victor Adeyanju attended Currie High School in Chicago, Illinois where he played football and basketball. As a senior, Victor totaled 45 tackles and 10 sacks in just five games before breaking his leg, effectively ending his season. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Indiana where he sat out the 2001 season as a redshirt. The following season he saw action in all 12 games, totaling 33 tackles and 2 sacks on the year. He started all 12 games as a sophomore in 2003, finishing with 31 tackles in his second season with the Hoosiers. He finished fifth on the team in tackles as a junior with 40 stops on the year. He also had 3 sacks on the season. As a senior, Victor extended his consecutive games started streak to 43, finishing with career highs in tackles (47) and sacks (6 ½ ) in his final season at Indiana.

Analysis

Victor Adeyanju has a great deal of experience, having started the past four seasons at defensive end for Indiana. During that time he has proven to be one of the most durable players in the nation, finishing his career with 43 consecutive games started. Victor has a good combination of size and athleticism for a defensive end. He is a tough player and a hard worker with a motor that never stops. He has a quick first step which allows him to beat most offensive tackles off the snap of the ball. He changes directions well and has the ability to chase a ball carrier down from behind. He is a solid run defender who rarely misses a tackle. He has potential to become a very good pass rusher with good closing speed getting to the quarterback. He has relied too much on pure athleticism alone in college and will need to improve his pass rushing technique to be as effective at the professional level. As I mentioned he is a solid run defender, but he could be more physical and improve in that area. He would benefit from bulking up and increasing his strength and he does have a good frame to work with. Victor Adeyanju is still a bit raw when it comes to his technique; however, his combination of size and athleticism give him enough upside to warrant a second day selection in the 2006 NFL draft.
